The San Juan Children's Choir is a non-profit organization dedicated to provided a musical education to children between 5 and 18 years of age. Students are selected after a detailed audition where the child's musical skills and aptitude are evaluated. Founded in 1966, by its current Artistic Director, Evy Lucío Córdova, the San Juan Children's Choir was the first institution of its kind in Puerto Rico and is today one of the more distinguished art organizations in Puerto Rico.
The consistent excellence of the San Juan Children's Choir has been cited in countless critiques and awards receieved at both the national and international level. The exceptional quality of the San Juan Children's Choir can be traced to its unique well rounded curriculum that includes choral music, music theory, music history, instruments and languages. Throughout their time at the San Juan Children's Choir, students see the benefits of discipline and hardwork. Though no prior singing or musical experience is required to enter, in the auditions process a child's knowledge and sense of rhythm, pitch, auditory memory, and vocal conditioning. The student experience at the San Juan Children's Choir includes performance on a diversity of venues, exposure to different cultures and a renewed sense of belonging as each student is encouraged to become a goodwill ambassador for Puerto Rico.
The San Juan Children's Choir has a vast music repertoire that spans Gregorian chants to contemporary music and crosses linguistic and cultural fronteirs. The Choir has represented the Island in venues across AmeEl Coro de Niños de San Juan posee un vasto repertorio musical que abarca desde el canto Gregoriano a la música contemporánea y cruza las fronteras lingüísticas y culturales. El Coro de Niños de San Juan ha presentad the Island in venues across América, Europe and Asia, in concert halls such as Wiener Musikverein in Viena, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Hermitage Palace Theater in St. Petersburgo, Russia. In Puerto Rico, the Choir often participates in the Festival Casals and operas such as "La Boheme", "Carmen" and "Tosca", have performed with reknown solists such as Plácido Domingo, Justino Díaz and Renata Scotto, among others, as well as sung alongside many world class orchestras.
