Evy Lucío Córdova, Founder and Artistic Director

Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Ms. Evy Lucío Córdova is a graduate from the Sacred Heart College of Puerto Rico with a BA in Arts. She continued her musical studies at Longy School of Music in Boston and at Pius X School of Liturgical Music of New York. She was a professor at the Music Department of the Sacred Heart University of PR and the University of Puerto Rico. In 1966 she founded the San Juan Children’s Choir with a group of 14 talented young girls, and presently the Choir has over 200 children enrolled.

In 1974, Dr. Walter Tautschnig, General Director of the Vienna Boy’s Choir, invited Ms. Lucío to their institution to study their methodology. She was awarded Doctor of Music degree (Honoris Causa) from Saint John’s University in New York in 1984 and Doctor of Arts degree (Honoris Causa) from the Sacred Heart University in 2000. She also received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Sacred Heart University in 1989 and from the Longy School of Music in 1994.

Ms. Evy Lucío served as guest choral conductor and clinician in 1996 at the Georgia Middle School Treble All State Chorus and served as panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts in the Opera and Chorus categories. She served as guest choral conductor in 1998 for the International Society for Children’s Choral Performing Arts, Festival of the Americas. She also offered various workshops on choral music pedagogy for children, while conducting in Mexico City.

Ms. Lucío has composed more than fifty children’s songs. As an accomplished choral music arranger, she has transcribed and translated numerous German, French and Italian songs into Spanish and English. Her first choral publications, the “San Juan Children’s Choir Series” was published in 1998 by Neil A. Kjos Music Company as well as her book “Music and Methods for Children’s Choir”

  • 1974 - Fue invitada por el Dr. Walter Tautschnig director general de los Niños Cantores de Viena.
  • 1984 - La Universidad de St. Johns de la ciudad de Nueva York le concede el grado de Doctorado en Música (Honoris Causa).
  • 1989 - Recibió la otorgación de Ex Alumna Distinguida de Longy School of Music de Cambridge, Massachusetts.
  • 1994 - Es invitada como directora y conferenciante en la Conferencia Mundial de la Sociedad Internacional de Educación Musical en Tampa, Florida. Recibió lo otorgación de Ex Alumna Distinguida de la Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • 1996 - Es invitada como directora y conferenciante en el “Georgia All State Chorus” 
  • 1997 - Es invitada como panelista para evaluar propuestas en el área de música coral y opera por la “National Endowment for the Arts”.
  • 1998 - Es invitada como directora titular del Festival de las Américas organizado por la “International Society for Children’s Choral & Performing Arts” en las ciudades de Phoenix y Tucson, Arizona y Ciudad México.
  • 1998 - La reconocida casa publicadora, Neil A. Kjos Music Company, publica su primera serie de arreglos corales bajo el nombre de San Juan Children’s Choir Series y su libro Music and Methods for Children’s Choir.
  • 2000 - Es invitada a ofrecer ponencias y talleres en el Tercer Simposio Coral Nacional en Ciudad México.
  • 2000 - La Universidad del Sagrado Corazón de San Juan, Puerto Rico le concede el grado de Doctorado en Artes (Honoris Causa)
